The National Meeting of Diocesan Directors of Liturgy (NMDDL) is an annual gathering of Liturgy Directors of the dioceses in the Philippines, Professors of Liturgy and whose ministry revolves around making the Liturgy “the source and summit of Christian Life.” Sacrosanctum Concilium, inspired by the Encyclical, Mediator Dei, calls the Liturgy, Culmen et Fons: “The Liturgy is the summit toward which the activity of the Church is directed. At the same time it is the fount from which all the Church’s power flows.”
(Excerpt from the 25th National Meeting of Diocesan Directors of Liturgy, The Chronicle of NMDDL: 1986-2010, Sister M. Susan Abellana, OSB)
The summary of the purposes of the National Meeting of Diocesan Directors of Liturgy are the following:
-
To prepare the clergy and laity towards a full, active and conscious participation in the Sacred Liturgy.
-
To adequately provide direction in coping with the many changes envisioned by the Second Vatican Council, especially where extraordinary decisions had to be arrived at in relation to Liturgy.
-
To give encouragement and assistance for the translation of liturgical books into the vernacular dialects of the Philippines.
-
To explore possibilities of cultural adaptations of the Sacred Liturgy where tribal or minority groups are involved.
-
To facilitate inputs from experts and diocesan directors of commissions on Sacred Liturgy to address particular needs and concerns.
